Warby Parker is bringing a little downtown cool to the Upper East Side, opening a new location at 1209 Lexington Ave. at E. 82nd St. this Saturday. We got a sneak peek inside the new store yesterday and it’s as hip as you would expect. Actually, probably even more so. The two-story location was built in the 1930s and used to be a pharmacy. The original tiled floors and wooden staircase have been kept intact while the rest of the building was given a sleek makeover.
The store has a library feel, with the shelves of glasses mixed in with bookshelves. There are nooks with worn leather chairs and literary journals like The Believer and n+1 for sale. Not just a retailer, there is also an exam room and optometrist on hand.
