It’s been 10 minutes since the doors opened and the venue is already over capacity. You’d think there was a Justin Timberlake/ Jay-Z concert going on.
Before we even get to the clothes, let’s discuss the spot-on styling and accessories. The models are wearing fun hot pink pouts, cool sunnies and statement jewels — it wouldn’t be a J.Crew show without them! But the shoes stand out most. The first thing that catches my eye are a pair of tan cut-out booties with bead detailing. A quick scan of the room reveals so many more lust-worthy pairs: quirky floral pumps, strappy tie-ups in rainbow colors and classic weave sling-backs which all complement the collection of neon bright sportswear and tailored classics currently on display.
Surfers in California, coupled with the imagery of turn-of-the-century Venetian coastlines, provided the jumping off point of inspiration for womenswear designer Tom Mora. That yielded looks that are a little dressy, yet completely laid-back in classic Jenna Lyons style, such as a shimmering skirt in iridescent mint lace paired with a graphic “aloha” t-shirt, which perfectly embodies the whole air of carefree elegance happening here right now.
